Love and the Tarot

By far, the most common questions asked in a reading, are questions about love.  It makes sense, doesn’t it? As human beings, we crave companionship and relationship.  There seems to be no end to the crazy twists and turns that go along with love, love lost, friendship, obsession, and on and on and on.  There is an entire suit of cards in the Tarot devoted to love and relationships, and that is the suit of Cups.

When a querant asks a question about love, whether in the romantic sense, the global sense, or anywhere in between, you can be sure that Cups will come up somewhere in the spread.  It’s very, very important that the reader treads carefully here, as in this sector of life – more than any other – it is quite easy to cause damage to the heart of your client. The reader should look deeply into the cards and choose her words carefully.  Surrounding cards will most likely assist in this step.

How a reader handles questions such as these will tell the querant what type of reader he is dealing with.  There are readers that I refer to as Drama Readers.  These readers seem to only see tabloid headlines in the cards and relish the conflict contained there.  Dwelling on this level of the story will inevitably bring bad advice.  As human beings, we are all born with a large dose of guilt.  One common initial reaction to feeling this is to push those guilty feelings outward onto someone else.  Psychologists call it “shifting the blame.”  Another common reaction is to take the blame weapon and turn it on ourselves.  Neither of these reactions is healthy. A Drama Reader cannot see any route but this.

When seeking a Tarot card reader for questions on the subject of love, it’s to your benefit to find someone who has lived several chapters of each of life’s themes.  A reader of this caliber will recognize the potholes of blame and guilt and will steer you around them to a healthier path.  She can also direct you in reaching upward to your highest personal expression.  After all is said and done, we must wish all people well if we are to find our way home.
